Recommendation Report

To: Friends and Prom Date

From: Cassie

Subject: Recommendation on Where to Take Pictures Before Prom

Introduction

As you know prom is around the corner and it’s time to start planning! After seeing all the best photo spots in San Diego I have gathered information on a few places I believe would be the best for us to take our pictures before prom. I’ve narrowed it down to two places: Hotel Del and Sea Port Village. Now there is a few things we all must keep in mind:

1. Where can we eat around there?

2. How far is it from prom?

3. Background

Recommendation

I recommend that we go to Hotel Del in Coronado to take our pictures before prom, not only because it would be a beautiful background, but because it’s close to where prom is being held and would be more convenient.

Where can we eat around there?

Hotel Del has 5 different amazing restaurants that we could choose from to eat dinner at after pictures. Along with the restaurants inside the hotel there are places like the Brigantine less than a mile away we could also consider.

Seaport Village not having as many places to chose from still has a few good restaurants, The Harbor House and the Edgewater Grill but both of those are a tad pricey.

How far is it from prom?

Hotel Del is located in Coronado along with the location of the event. According to Google maps to get from the Del to prom is 4.6 miles and would take 10 or less minutes to get there.

Seaport Village on the other hand is almost 11 miles from our event and would take 20-25 minutes to get to our destination.

Background

Hotel Del has many beautiful spots to take pictures. You can go in the sand down by the water, into one of the cute little gazebos or just stand on the board walk and get the beautiful hotel in the background.

Seaport Village is simple. No matter where you go your going to get the same background, rocks and water. There is nowhere in that area where you can go in the sand and actually get close to the water.

Conclusion

Prom is supposed to be one of the most important events of our lives, so let’s keep the stress to a minimum by choosing The Hotel Del and making everything less of a hassle on ourselves.

Walter Disney

Birth Place/Family: Walter Elias Disney was born on December 5, 1901 in  small town Herosa, Illinois. His last name, Disney, actually came from his ancestors’ name “D’Isigny,” which was pronounced “Dez-nay.” Walt’s dad, Elias Disney, was Irish Canadian, and his mom, Call Disney, was German American. Walt had four siblings; three brothers Roy, Raymond and Herbert, and one sister, Ruth Flora Disney.

Childhood: After Walt was born his family moved to Marceline, Missouri. He went to Benton Grammar School for elementary, and that’s where he first started to draw. Once he began to get good at it, he came up with the idea to sell his art. He made signs, went door-to-door to neighbors, and even sold them to family.

When he was 10, his family moved again, this time to Kansas City where Walt’s uncle lived. His uncle was a train engineer, and Walt wanted to be just like him. He even started helping out at the train tracks, earning the nickname “the little helper.”

Later Walt went to McKinley High School, where he got back into art, took a photography class, and continued drawing. At 16, he dropped out of school because he wanted to join the army, but he was rejected for being too young.

Hobbies, Interest & Activites: From a young age art was a very big hobby of Walts. He first started drawing in elementary school at age 12. Walt would draw and paint pictures then sell them to his friends, family and neighbors. Everyone loved his art and was amazed because he was so young. When Walt got to high school he found a passion for another type of art, photography.

When Walt moved to Kansas City, he grew closer to his uncle Mike Martin, who was a train engineer. As they spent more time together, Walt started to develop a big interest in trains just like his uncle. One summer, his uncle asked him if he wanted to work with him, and of course Walt said yes.

Anecdotes: With Walt's love for drawing and photography after he returned from France, his brother and him moved to California with plans to start their own business. Walt and Roy soon after moving opened up "Disney Brother Studios". The first thing the brothers began to work on was a cartoon octopus named Oswald. Unfortunately Margaret Winkler, the women they hired to be the distributer of there company stole the brothers characters and took them to start her own company.

In 1955, Walt opened Disneyland, a place he wanted to be “the happiest place on earth.” Disneyland was created as a place where children and families could come together and make lifelong memories. Within the first year, the park was already worth 17 million dollars. After seeing how successful Disneyland was, Walt and his brother Roy began working on plans for another theme park, which would eventually open in Orlando, Florida.

Reason For Fame: Walt Disney did a lot of things in his lifetime that brought him the fame he had. From his sketches and the creation of Mickey Mouse to opening Disneyland, Walt did so much to make him the famous man he was and still is. It took him years of hard work and planning to get where he did. No one will ever go to Disneyland or watch Disney Channel without thinking about the amazing man, Walt Disney, who made it all happen.

Mid Life: In 1925, Walt and his brother hired a woman to work for them as their secretary, and her name was Lillian Bounds. Within a year of working at the Disney Brothers Studio, Walt had fallen in love with her and they got married. The first time Walt and Lillian tried to get pregnant it ended in a miscarriage, but on December 18, 1933, Lillian gave birth to their first daughter, Diane Marie Disney. Later on, the couple decided that with all the complications of their first pregnancy they would just adopt another child. On December 31, 1936, Walt and Lillian adopted Sharon Mae Disney.

Death: Early in life Walt had hurt his neck playing polo and in 1966 was finally going to have surgery to fix the damage. During a pre X-ray for the surgery the doctors discovered a tumor in his left lung caused by all the smoking he had done throughout his life. Five days after the discovery the cancerous tumor had spread through his whole lung. Immediately the doctors removed the lung and gave Walt the bad news he only had 6 months to 2 years to live. Shortly after the surgery Walt collapsed in his home but was revived by the paramedics. Unfortunately two weeks later, right after his 65th birthday, Walt passed away on December 15, 1966 from acute circulatory collapse caused by lung cancer.

After Walt passed an urban legend began that he was cryonically frozen and his corpse is now stored underneath the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland. While people like Diane, Walt’s daughter, claim, "There is absolutely no truth to the rumor that my father, Walt Disney, wished to be frozen. I doubt that my father had ever heard of cryonics," the guests of the park don’t know what to believe.

#CUTSFORBIEBER

Justin Bieber, a teen sensation who wanted to have a little fun, “forced” his fans to do something drastic that could have ended their lives. On January 7, 2013, Bieber was out partying and smoking marijuana with his friends. Though the celebrity tells reporters all photos taken of him while he is out belong to him, it looks like it didn’t stay that way this time. Due to Justin Bieber’s careless mistake, he unintentionally caused his fans to be disappointed. Along with being disappointed, his fans started a “trend” called #CUTSFORBIEBER. This trend was thought up to show Bieber his fans care so much about him that they are going to cut themselves until he stops smoking.

Are you a fan of Justin Bieber?

  1. No, I don’t like him or his music.

  2. Yes, I love Justin Bieber.

What do you think about him smoking?

  1. It’s funny!

  2. Doesn’t bother me.

Would you ever join the Cuts for Bieber trend?

  1. No!

  2. HECK NO!

What do you think of people who are cutting over him?

  1. Stupid. People are dumb to think a celebrity will stop smoking because they are cutting themselves.

  2. Insane!

Speaking with a few of Justin Bieber’s fans, you can see most of them don’t agree with the #CUTSFORBIEBER trend. While most don’t agree, the people who do participate in this overdramatic obsession say this is a serious matter and they won’t give up until their celebrity crush stops smoking. Even though Justin Bieber made a mistake, his true fans will look past it and still love him for the awesome pop star that he is!

Coraline!

From the director of Nightmare Before Christmas, Henry Selick brings to us yet another fantasy/horror movie, Coraline, which is based on the children's book written by Neil Gaman. In the movie, Coraline Jones, played by Dakota Fanning, and Coraline's parents, played by Teri Hatcher and John Hodgman, , move into a new apartment building called The Pink Palace. Coraline has no friends and is surrounded by strange neighbors. Little did she know her dull reality was about to turn into a crazy fantasy when she enters a parallel universe.

The film begins with Coraline and her parents moving into a very old apartment called The Pink Palace located in Oregon. Once they get settled into their new home, you learn that Coraline's parents don’t really show her much love or attention. Since Coraline is neglected by her parents, she tries to find people to talk to and keep her company, but her neighbors are all strange and the only kid her age is Wybie, a boy she doesn’t really like. In the middle of the night Coraline wanders the house and comes across a little door that takes her to a parallel universe. This other universe is strangely similar to her own, but people have buttons for eyes and completely opposite personalities. Entering this place makes all of Coraline’s dreams come true until her "other mother" tries to trick her into staying forever.

To film this movie Henry Selick uses Stop Motion Animation , which is a technique used to make an object look like it is moving on its own. Each puppet is moved in small increments before capturing a photo. Each second of the film takes about 24 photos to make the scenes look as realistic as possible. Each character is made out of clay with moveable joints, making it easier to capture the stop motion technique Selick wanted for this movie. Although puppets were used in the filming of this stop motion animation, not all filmers will use puppets instead they often use real people.

Another major part of this movie was the costume making. All the outfits the puppets wore throughout the movie were actually handsewn to fit them perfectly and look real. For each scene one of the puppets might have multiple versions of their outfits so it would look perfect in every picture taken.

The movie Coraline was very thrilling and kept me on the edge of my seat. It’s a perfect movie with lots of suspense that always had me wondering what was going to happen in the next scene. Although I really enjoyed this film, I don’t think it should be rated PG. From the horror to the appearance of some of the characters, this movie is a bit too mature for someone under the age of 13.

Season 4, Glee Premier. *SPOILER ALERT*

The new cast of season 4, Glee.

Season 4 is here, which means all you true Gleeks are going crazy with excitement for what’s to come, even after the dull and boring second half of last season.

The last time we were watching our favorite Glee members, they were crossing the stage in their graduation robes and moving on to bigger things. Rachel was off to the Big Apple for NYADA, while Finn was joining the army, and their relationship was coming to an end. Kurt stayed home because he didn’t get into NYADA with Rachel, but he was still going strong with Blaine. Mike was headed to a ballet school in Chicago, while his love Tina stayed back for her last year at McKinley. Mercedes went to LA for her recording contract, all thanks to Sam and his video. And lastly, Santana had turned down a cheer scholarship to Louisville to do who knows what, while Brittany was preparing to repeat her senior year after only earning a 1.0 GPA.

As we watch the new season air, the Glee club members who are left are all competing to see who will be "the new Rachel." Little did they know there would soon be new people in the club wanting to be "the new Rachel" too. Throughout the episode we get to see parts of Rachel’s new life in New York where she seems miserable and lonely. Mr. Shue holds the auditions for New Directions (aka Glee club) and two amazing people come in. One was Marley who sang "Chasing Pavements" by Adele and the other was Puck's younger brother Jake, who sang "It Will Rain" by Bruno Mars. Sadly Jake had too much attitude and was denied. At the end of the episode we are in Central Park with Rachel while she is talking to Kurt on the phone about hating her roommate and wanting to come home because she can’t be there on her own. But in that moment Kurt comes up behind her and they are reunited and about to take on the Big Apple together.
                       .
Like in every episode, the singing is always my favorite part! The Glee members did a lot of great songs during the season 4 premiere and are about to be hit again by Britney Spears just like they were in season 2.

On that note, see you Gleeks next week!
